Client: Television Jamaica - TVJ
Location: Kingston – Jamaica


Television Jamaica Limited contracted BIG in July 2003 to design, integrate, install and implement their new all digital television station, as well as their radio operations. Additionally, BIG provided design and consultation services for the complete lighting systems, and acoustic treatment for their two television studios, voice over suites and radio booths.

TVJ’s new facility features automation of the master control area as well as a fully automated News solution with 5 multi functional news edit suites, two complete production studios and control rooms and a Graphics Design Suite. Both Radio and Television facilities are linked and share resources in a networked environment controlled by QNews.

Some of the manufacturers selected by BIG’s Systems Design team for this project were: Florical Automation Systems, Grass Valley/Thomson, AutoCue Systems, Ikegami, Hitachi, Avid, Axon, Maya, RTS/Telex, Yamaha, Colortran and Forecast Custom Consoles.

Television Jamaica has been fully operational and On Air since February 2004 and the radio stations went live in March 2004.







Client: Omni Cable
Location: Sonora , Mexico

The project covers the construction of Hybrid Fiber Coaxial networks in 4 cities located in the state of Sonora , Mexico . The high bandwidth nature of these networks will not only allow the distribution of TV channels but will also provide for voice and data services to residential and corporate subscribers. The project included the network deployment and the head end equipment needed to accomplish the following tasks: signal reception via satellite or via air, channel modulation for distribution and the Cable Modem Termination (CMTS) for the data (Internet).Distribution through cable modems.



BIG covered the main aspects of the project such as:

Client: Telemicro & Digital 15
Location: Santo Domingo , Dominican Republic

“Telemicro” and “Digital 15” are located in a newly renovated building that houses two identical production serial digital (ITU-R601) infrastructures to feed the two channels. These rooms include two separate control rooms. A shared Grass Valley™ Networked Attached Storage (NAS) system, and combined linear and nonlinear edit and graphics suites. The master control, engineering and studio control rooms are uniquely divided up by acoustically sensitive, double-pane glass, which allows employees and visiting public tours to see the entire workplace at a glance.  
“Faced with the worldwide move to digital production, we decided to leap forward from the existing [analog] state of television in our country to a first-class digital facility that would successfully blend our Latin style of television work with a tapeless, server-based, content-shared environment,: said Gomez-Diaz. “We did not want technology to overwhelm our work style or philosophy and we feel we succeeded in making our production and news operations faster, fresher, and more stylish,” he added. “The equipment choices we made reaffirmed our leadership position and ensure our investment.”


Client: The Kitchen
Location: Miami , Florida – USA

The Kitchen is a state-of-the-art audiovisual services company offering a variety of specialized services to the television industry including network playout, language conversion, and distribution of audiovisual material.

Prominent in this installation is the Barco iStudio monitoring system, capable of displaying 40 images simultaneously in a single display. In addition to Barco, the system includes 8 channels of Thimson/GV Profile, full automation control, non linear edit suites, Scientific Atlanta PowerVue receivers, full standard conversion, SD video/audio routing and more
.  

Client: Antena Latina
Location: Santo Domingo – Dominican Republic


In September 1999 ANtena Latina contracted BIG services for the design, engineering, integration, and installation of an upgraded Master Control Room, Core Engineering and fully digital Virtual News Set.

The Orad Virtual set was the first one installed in the Caribbean and it uses a set designed by Delvin Design Group, in addition to the Orad set, the system uses a GVG 1200 Switcher, Hitachi digital studio cameras and full complement of video and audio equipment. The upgraded Master Control was designed around the GVG Master 21 and Florical Automation for commercial insertion from a Profile server.
